Boiler plant training programs enable attendees to operate and maintain boilers or other equipment used to provide utilities for residential and industrial processes. Trainees also gain expertise in boiler plant engineering techniques.

  1. Qualifications

    • To fill a boiler plant operator vacancy, employers generally prefer applicants who have at least a high school diploma or GED certificate, reports the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS). Senior boiler plant operators usually have an associate or bachelor's degree.

    Training Topics

    • According to the BLS, novice boiler plant operators receive on-the-job training. Employees usually need one or two years of training alongside experienced professionals, reports O*Net OnLine. Boiler plant operators learn how to observe and interpret readings on gauges, monitor boiler water quality, inspect boiler equipment and computer terminals, and analyze operating issues and take proper actions to ensure continuous and reliable operation of boiler equipment.

    Technology

    • According to O*Net OnLine, boiler plant training lessons help attendees gain dexterity with tools and equipment such as building management system software, gas brazing equipment, oxyacetylene welding equipment, and manifold test gauges.
