Echocardiography is a noninvasive diagnostic technique that uses ultrasound to study the heart's structure and motions. An echocardiography technician training program helps attendees gain acumen in cardiovascular technology and electrocardiogram techniques, or EKG techniques.

  1. Education

    • Employers require that job candidates have an associate degree in cardiovascular technology or a related discipline to qualify for an echocardiography technician position, according to U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) data. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Professionals accredits cardiovascular technology education programs.

    Training Themes

    • The BLS reports that a new echocardiography technician receives on-the-job training. Employees typically undergo one or two years of coaching alongside experienced professionals, according to O*Net OnLine. During training, echocardiography technicians learn how to prepare and position patients for testing, check and test cardiology equipment to ensure proper operation, and monitor patients' blood pressure and heart rate using EKG equipment.

    Technology

    • According to O*Net OnLine, an echocardiography technician trainee becomes adept with tools and equipment such as automatic implantable cardioverter defibrillator implants, 3D-ultrasound processing and analysis tools, cardiovascular implants, and medical picture archiving computer systems.
