How to Upgrade Microsoft Messenger

Microsoft Messenger merged with Windows as part of the Windows Live network. Though Windows Live Messenger works just as MSN Messenger did, you must download Windows Live Messenger to utilize the service.

  1. Online

    • Microsoft Messenger must be upgraded from the Internet. You can download the newest version from Windows Live's website (see Resources). It is downloaded as an executable file you must run and install.

    Caution

    • Only download the file from Windows Live's website to avoid viruses. Other websites may have links or hosts of the executable file, but this is not always the safest option. If you download the file from Windows Live, you should not have virus problems.

    Deletion

    • After downloading the newest version of Windows Live, uninstall and delete MSN Messenger. The file is no longer useful and is taking up unnecessary room on your computer. This will also avoid confusion when running Windows Live, because you cannot use both programs at the same time.
