How to Wash Kabuki Brushes

Kabuki makeup brushes are often the cosmetic tool of choice for women who choose to wear a mineral or powder foundation. Usually made of animal hair, kabuki brushes require more maintenance than regular makeup brushes and must be washed on a regular basis.

Create Cleansing Solution

Because Kabuki brushes are made of natural bristles, baby shampoos and softening shampoos are best.

Fill a medium-sized bowl half-way with water. Add a single squirt of anti-bacterial gel or anti-bacterial soap. Add a generous dollop of shampoo and stir until the mixture is frothy.

Clean Brush

Swirl the kabuki brush in the cleansing solution for three minutes. Make sure not to wet the plastic stem or the part of the bristles closest to the stem.

Dry

Using a towel to dry your kabuki brush is extremely unwise, as it will damage the bristles and most likely cause shedding.

Tie a rubber-band loosely around the kabuki brush if its bristles are starting to loose their shape. Lay the brush out overnight to dry.
