A security adviser plans and implements physical security and theft prevention systems as well as develops defensive policies and procedures. He investigates physical security violations as well as electronic file and intellectual property encroachments.

A security adviser requires knowledge of the latest security and safety systems and the skill to educate and train personnel on security policies and procedures. A calm and authoritative demeanor helps the adviser aptly defuse tense or sensitive security situations.

Preferred Background

A bachelor's degree in security management or public administration is generally required. Many employers require applicants to have a minimum of five years experience in security supervision or management. Background in law enforcement is an asset.
