Telesales workers, also known as telemarketers, inform prospective clients and customers over the phone about a company's products and services. These professionals also conduct market research and collect feedback from users on issues such as customer satisfaction and personal buying habits.

In addition to explaining the benefits of a product or service to customers, telesales workers gather contact information and advise customers on how to best use their purchase. Other duties of a telesales professional include signing up customers and prospects for a free trial and entering customer information into electronic databases.

Telesales workers should have excellent oral communication and customer service skills. Because these professionals primarily speak to customers and prospective clients over the phone, good phone etiquette, confidence and professionalism are important.

The average hourly wage for a telesales representative in the United States ranged from $9.71 to $15.80, according to an August 2010 PayScale report. Average commission for the role fell between $5,192 and $29,661 per year.
