What Is the Difference Between a Nursing Assistant & a Nursing Technician?
Both nursing assistants and nursing technicians are employed in the field of health care to assist medical professionals with patient care. Nursing technicians take on a broader range of duties than nursing assistants and require more training.
-
Job Duties
-
Nursing assistants provide personal care to residents of health care facilities, such as helping them eat or take a bath. Nursing technicians also provide these duties, but, depending on state laws, may also help physicians examine patients, administer medication, draw blood and monitor machines.
Training
-
Training for nursing assistants typically requires two to three months at a health care organization, adult ed or community college program. Nursing technicians are often students enrolled in registered nurse programs, though some schools offer nine-month courses specifically for nursing technicians.
-
Certification
-
You don't need to be certified to be a nurse technician, although some schools do offer a voluntary certification. To be a nursing assistant, you will have to be certified.
