Get your own domain name.

A custom domain name is essential to driving traffic to your website. Google, besides being a trusted search engine and technology company, is also an accredited domain registrar. However, it is not always obvious how to register a new domain name with Google. The process involves signing up for a Google Apps account at the same time.

  1. Choose Your Domain Name

    • Visit http://www.google.com/a/cpanel/domain/new in your browser. Click the "I want to buy a domain name" tab on the right. In the white box in the section below, type in your desired domain name. Your domain name must be .com, .net, .org, .info or .biz. Click the "Check Availability" button to begin the registration process.

    Register Your Domain Name

    • If your domain name is not already in use, Google will display a page indicating your chosen name is available. On this page you will see all the registration benefits. Click on the "Continue to registration" button. On the second of three steps you will be asked to fill in your personal information. You must agree to the terms and conditions to proceed.

    Pay For Your Domain Name

    • Click on the "I accept. Proceed to Google Checkout" button. You will be taken to the checkout page and prompted to sign into an existing Google account, or provide your payment information and create a new Google account. Once Google authorizes and processes your payment, you will be taken to the Google Apps configuration page. You will be able to customize the settings for both your Google Apps and new domain name.
