How to Compare Inline Skates

How to Compare Inline Skates thumbnail
Experienced skaters with high performance demands will want to look in a higher price range.

Inline skates are a popular method of recreation, but it isn't always easy to decide which pair of skates you should buy. Skate buyers should look at a few factors when comparing skates.

  1. Wheels

    • Compare the wheels on the skates you might want to buy. Skates with larger wheels are faster, but skates with smaller wheels are more maneuverable. Keep your preference on this matter in mind when looking at the wheel sizes of any pairs you consider.

    Boots

    • Compare the boots against each other. Comfort is key, since skates that hurt your feet won't be very fun. Higher boots offer more support. Also compare based on your preference for lace-up boots or buckle boots.

    Bearings

    • These little metal balls in the skate's wheel apparatus determine the smoothness of wheel spin. Compare the Annular Bearing Engineer Council ratings of the skates against one another. Higher ratings cost more money, but offer a smoother ride.
