SR22 Information
An SR22 certificate is a form an auto insurance company files with a state's department of motor vehicles (DMV) that verifies that a licensed motorist has purchased liability car insurance. There are specific situations that require an SR22 filing.

Reasons
-
Drivers are required to have an SR22 filed on their behalf for reasons including a conviction for driving without insurance, involvement in an auto accident while not insured and the loss of driving privileges for driving under the influence (DUI) and excessive traffic tickets in a short period of time. If driving privileges have been lost, an SR22 must be filed before driving privileges are restored.
States
-
Because SR22 laws vary from state to state, it is wise to check with the state DMV for specific details. Some states (Pennsylvania, Oklahoma, Minnesota, New Mexico, Delaware and Kentucky) do not require SR22 forms. However, each of these states will enforce applicable laws if a driver has moved from a state that does require SR22 filings.

In most states, SR22 forms are a temporary requirement, as long as the driver avoids future infractions. In some states, however, SR22 filings may be required for longer periods for repeated traffic and driving violations. For example, in Alaska, an SR22 filing becomes a permanent requirement after four driving while intoxicated (DWI) convictions.
