How to Buy a Women's Bike
Buying a bicycle for a woman is much like buying a bicycle for a man. The only difference is that a bicycle with a woman's specific design (WSD) increases the likelihood of a more comfortable fit without needing modifications. Many factors need to be considered when buying a women's bike.

Bike Types
-
There are four main types of bikes: mountain bikes, road bikes, hybrid bikes and lifestyle bikes. The bicycle you choose needs to be suited for the terrain you will be riding on. Women's bikes come in each of these types. No matter the type, women's bike frames generally have a top tube that connects in the middle of the seat tube instead of the top to allow for a lower stand-over height.
Fit
-
Contact with a bike is made in three places: the handlebars, saddle and pedals. A WSD bicycle is smaller and shorter to accommodate a women's smaller size. A bicycle shop can properly size a bike and fit it especially for you.

Handlebars
-
Handlebars on a WSD can be narrower and have a shorter reach. The drop is the distance between the top and bottom of the handlebars. A smaller hand needs a smaller drop.
Saddles
-
Women's saddles are wider and shorter to accommodate a wider pelvis. Take a test ride before you buy to ensure comfort.
