Temporary Work Job Services

Temporary workers may perform administrative duties.

Temporary job services offer short-term job opportunities for qualified applicants. A worker placed in a short-term assignment reports directly to her recruiting agency and receives her paycheck directly from her temporary job service provider.

  1. Application Procedure

    • Prospective temporary employees complete an application process and may need to authorize a criminal background check. Temporary job service providers normally require an interview and may ask that applicants complete a computer test designed to evaluate their level of knowledge of commonly used software programs.

    Function

    • Temporary job workers are often called to provide task coverage for permanent employees who are ill, on vacation or on short- or long-term disability leave. Companies may also request short-term workers from temp agencies to provide workload relief during special projects or after lay-offs.

    Job Length

    • Employment offered by temporary work job services can range from one day to several weeks or months, depending on a company's needs. Some temporary job firms offer clients the option to hire temporary employees as permanent company employees after a trial work period.

    Considerations

    • Temporary job service providers may not always have work for qualified applicants. Boston College recommends that people interested in short-term work register with more than one temporary job service provider to increase the chances of receiving work offers.
