Difference Between SD & DD RAM
Computers use RAM to open programs and allow them to run. A low amount of RAM in your system will result in slow performance characterized by glitches. "SDRAM" and "DDRAM" are two common names for types of RAM.

SD RAM

SD RAM, short for synchronous dynamic random access memory, is a largely outdated RAM type capable of only one data rate. According to Artipot.com, SDRAM can accept a single command and transfer one piece of data per clock cycle (a basic, measurable unit of computing activity).
DDR RAM

According to Webopedia.com, "DDRAM" is a shortened abbreviation for DDR RAM, which stands for double data rate RAM. As the name suggests, DDR RAM can transfer data two times per every clock cycle, effectively making it twice as fast as SD RAM.

Compatibility

If your computer's manual specifies that your PC takes SD RAM, DDR will be incompatible because the RAM types are slightly different in size, meaning they fit into different connectors. If your computer has SD RAM connection slots, DDR RAM won't fit into them physically.
Classification

It's important to note that DDR memory is a classification of SD RAM. For example, your computer might take DDR PC2100 SD RAM. Instead of a full replacement, DDR is more of an upgrade to SD RAM.
Other Types

Other upgrades to SD RAM are DDR2 and DDR3 SD RAM. DDR2 is twice as fast as regular DDR memory and DDR3 is twice as fast as DDR2.
