Laptops Explained
Laptop computers are a suitable alternative to desktop computers for many consumers. There are both advantages and disadvantages to having a smaller, more portable computer, depending on the applications the laptop will be used for.
-
Features
-
A laptop is a smaller computer in which the screen, hardware components and keyboard are all built into a single, portable unit. The screen folds down over the keyboard for protection and portability. All of the laptop hardware is located on an integrated motherboard underneath the keyboard.
Advantages
-
The main advantage of a laptop is its size and portability. Because laptops have an integrated screen, keyboard and touchpad, they are fully functional without needing to connect any external devices to them. They also take up much less space in the home and can be used in places where a desktop would be too large.
-
Disadvantages
-
Laptops tend to be more expensive when compared to desktop computers with similar hardware and processing power. Laptops are also much more difficult to repair and upgrade than desktops because most of the hardware is integrated into a single unit, the motherboard, to save space. Because of this, laptops tend to have a shorter lifespan than desktops.
