What Is the Executable File for Outlook Express?

Outlook Express is not a directly installed program. It comes with Internet Explorer, up to version 6. Once Microsoft ceased to update Windows XP in favor of Vista, the protocol for Outlook Express ceased as well.

Misconception

There is no setup program for Outlook Express. You must download a version of Internet Explorer 6, or earlier, to install Outlook Express on your computer. Outlook Express is an optional installation with the Web browser.

Identification

Outlook Express does have an executable file. The file name can be located in C: Program Files\Outlook Express and is named MSIMN. It is not an executable file as in an EXE extension but rather an application file. It will open and allow you to use Outlook Express in the event that you lose your shortcut buttons.

Accessibility

To open Outlook Express, type MSIMN in the "Search Files and Folders" search box under "Start." When you see the OE icon appear, double-click it to open Outlook Express.
