  1. Identification

    • "Shantung" generally refers to a type of silk fabric or, occasionally, a fabric made of cotton. Poly shantung contains polyester in its weaving. Poly shantung imitates the basic look of silk shantung but costs much less.

    Appearance

    • Gowns with polyester woven in generally imitate the appearance of the original fabric, and poly shantung reproduces the look of silk shantung's visible nubs. Due to the polyester fibers, the matte finish of normal shantung fades while a glossier texture appears.
