House Sitting As a Live in Caregiver
Live-in caregivers provide around-the-clock care to children, the elderly or the disabled. In exchange, live-in caregivers receive a salary and room and board.
-
Duties
-
Live-in caregivers primarily assist with the "Activities of Daily Living." These ADLs include things like cooking, cleaning, grooming, bathing, hygiene tasks, and assistance with medications. The live-in caregiver will maintain the cleanliness of the residence, prepare meals and perform shopping.
House-Sitting
-
The primary benefit of providing live-in care (as opposed to shift-work care giving) is the ability for the caregiver to cut down on his expenses by sharing a residence with their client. The live-in caregiver is also able to bond more directly and deeply with the individual he is caring for, as well as have a greater overall impact on quality of life.

Salary
-
Don't expect to get rich as a caregiver. The annual salary of a caregiver is $16,000 to $22,000 annually, according to Simply Hired and Salary List, two websites that provide salary comparisons. Keep in mind, though, if you are providing care seven days a week, you will not have any housing or utility expense, and you will be able to eat the meals you prepare as a caregiver.
The Schedules
-
The schedule of a live-in caregiver can vary. If you seek employment through an agency specializing in placing live-in caregivers, it may have rotating schedules set up, like one week on, one week off. Or it may schedule you Monday to Friday and hire a relief worker for the weekends. Others require a 24-hour, seven-day-a-week commitment.
