Radial Scars on the Breast
Radial scarring is a rare condition where the tissue of the breast thickens into a lesion. Also known as complex sclerosing, radial scarring can only be diagnosed by a doctor.

Identification
-
Radial scars are benign and usually brought on by a change in hormonal levels or inflammation, according to The Telegraph newspaper's website. They get their name because they have lines radiating out from the center of the mass.
Considerations
-
While radial scars themselves are harmless, there is the possibility that cancerous tissue is hiding out in the lesions. In many cases, doctors will opt to remove the lesion to test for malignant cells.
-
Significance
-
According to radiologist David Grieve, of Spire Thames Valley Hospital, one in 2,500 women will experience radial scarring. It is important that women get a regular breast screening for cancer and other conditions like radial scarring.
