Barbers are hairstylists who specialize in men's hair. Barber school takes six to twelve months to complete, depending on the program. During the time spent in school, students will gain the knowledge and experience they will need to become a barber.

    Experience

    • Most barber schools allow walk-in customers so that students will gain hands-on experience. Programs often require students to meet a certain number of hours of experience before taking the state licensing exam.

    Enrollment

    • Since barbering is considered a vocational career, the entry process into the school is not difficult. Generally, the requirements are to be either 16, 18 or 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or a GED.
