Job Description for a Senior Programmer Analyst
Senior programmer analysts perform a variety of complex duties related to data base management systems. These professionals design and install new software, perform analysis and maintenance of existing information systems, and provide responsible technical support.

General Duties

Senior analysts are responsible for analyzing and repairing equipment and system difficulties. They test computer programs, assign, prioritize and oversee the work of computer-operations staff, and provide training and education to other department personnel.
Educational Requirements

Employers require a minimum of an associate degree in computer programming or a certificate of completion from an accredited technical school before consideration. Many employers, such as Murray City, Utah, require a bachelor of computer science degree.

Other Requirements

Candidates for employment must have a thorough knowledge of database administration as well as data-modeling terms and concepts. Prospective analysts must have proficiency in languages such as COBOL or SQL, and a good knowledge of system design and testing principles.

Most work duties are performed while seated at a desk and computer station in a quiet office environment. Interaction with staff and members of other departments is commonplace.
