What Do You Need As a US Citizen to Travel to Honduras?

You do not need a visa to travel to Honduras.

Honduras provides a scenic and varied landscape for tourists. Americans who fulfill the entry requirements for Honduras can benefit from the Central America-4 (CA-4) agreement between Honduras, Guatemala, El Salvador and Nicaragua. The accord allows you to travel freely throughout the countries without completing entry and exit formalities at immigration checkpoints.

Passports

A U.S. passport valid for at least six months from the date of entry into Honduras is required to enter the country. A visa is not required for tourists.

Length of Stay

Border officials are charged with determining how long you will be able to stay in Honduras. Ninety days is the maximum for your stay, but if you choose to travel to other CA-4 countries for a length of time that would put you over 90 days, you may ask for a one-time extension from border officials in the CA-4 country where you are.

Onward Journey

You must prove your intent to depart Honduras and when that will be. A return ticket, itinerary or proof of your onward journey is required at ports of entry into the country.

Medical Requirements

Because of the high rate of AIDS/HIV in Honduras, American visitors with certain communicable diseases must present a medical certificate. To determine whether you must present a health certificate, contact the Honduran embassy or local consulate.
