Before buying a laptop, buyers should always review the specification sheet. Specification sheets are the best way to get an overview of what type of components make up the laptop computer.

Processors and Memory

Specification sheets provide the name of the manufacturer, as well as the speed of the processor. Memory is usually given in amount, as well as configuration.
Storage and Drive Types

Specification sheets will give the type of fixed drive on a laptop, as well as its capacity. As of 2010, fixed drives on laptops can be either hard drives or solid state drives. Specification sheets will also list if a laptop comes with an optical drive such as a DVD drive.
