When Do Toddlers Cut Their Final Baby Molar Teeth?

A toddle r's final molars come through after age two and may cause her to become irritable.

Each infant will experience five stages of teething. Babies are born with 20 teeth nicely hidden below the surface of their gums. The second set of molars are always the last to come in and sometimes the most painful. So, it's best to be prepared as to how to sooth a child's discomfort as the molars come through.

Final Molars

At approximately 25 to 33 months of age, a toddler will get her final molars in. These are the largest teeth to come in and often the most painful. So, it's helpful to give toddlers teething gels to sooth the gums as they emerge.

May Cause Fussing

For those parents noticing some fussing after their child's second birthday, this may very well be due to the second molars coming through. Children experiencing discomfort from their second molars coming in may not want to eat their normal diet and may drool to some extent.

Ways to Sooth

Molars are large and when coming in they push through fairly slowly. This is why it may make children quite irritable. They are not always easy to sooth, as they are in the back and hard to reach. The best thing to do to help toddlers get through their molars coming in is combining over the counter oral gel medicines, Tylenol and giving them cold things to suck on, such as popsicles or ice cream.
