Formula One car races are contested around the world.

The Formula One car racing circuit is one of the most prestigious and lucrative in the world. Teams tour race tracks around the world in hopes of producing a world champion driver.

  1. History

    • The Formula One car racing circuit began in 1950, with a seven-race schedule. Giuseppe Farina of Italy won the Grand Prix's inaugural race at Silverstone Circuit in Northamptonshire, England. He went on to win two more races that year, capturing the overall drivers' title.

    Time Frame

    • The annual Formula One Grand Prix schedule usually begins in March. Races are less frequent and more widely spaced out than in the NASCAR stock car circuit, since F1 holds each race in a different country while NASCAR is limited to the United States. The F1 calendar wraps up in mid-November.

    Geography

    • The Formula One series visits between 18 and 20 cities around the world each year, depending on how many races are held. Several circuits are annual stops on the calendar, while others vary from season to season. Annual competitions include the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, the German Grand Prix at Hockenheim Circuit and the Monaco Grand Prix, which takes place in the streets of Monte Carlo.
