Texas Doe Hunting
Hunters in Texas can bag both whitetail and mule deer. Texas archery season varies by year, but is held in the middle of autumn. Antlerless and muzzleloader seasons are in January and dates vary by region.

Licensing
-
Most resident Texas hunting licenses sell for $25 as of 2010, though youth and senior citizen hunting licenses sell for $7. The non-resident license costs $315 and five day non-resident licenses cost $48. Texas hunting licenses allow the bearer to hunt for any legal bird or land animal. Additionally, archery hunters and all deer hunters in Grayson County must buy a $7 stamp.
Hunter Education
-
Texas requires any hunter born after Sept. 2, 1971 to complete a hunter education course and display proof with the license. Hunters under 9 years old must be accompanied by an adult while hunters aged 9 to 16 must pass hunter education or be accompanied.

Firearms and Bows
-
In Texas, hunters may use any legal firearm to hunt whitetail deer except rimfire ammunition of any caliber. During archery season, hunters may use any bow or crossbow, except in Grayson County where crossbows are prohibited.
Limits
-
According to the 2010-2011 hunting regulations, hunters may bag up to five whitetail deer and two mule deer per year across all seasons. Only three whitetails and one mule may be bucks, so the rest have to be doe or male with no antlers. Some counties have further bag limits while some properties may have Managed Lands Deer Permits or Landowner Assisted Management Permit System allowing hunters to exceed limits.
