Federal Grant for Energy Efficiency for a House
Taking steps to improve the energy efficiency of your home is a cost-effective way to save money on utility bills and reduce your carbon footprint. The Department of Energy (DOE) offers several grants that support local programs designed to make residential energy efficiency retrofits affordable. Does this Spark an idea?
-
Weatherization Assistance Program
-
This program provides grants to United States states, territories and Indian tribal governments to support programs that provide home weatherization services to low-income households. Typically, the funds are distributed to local community action agencies, governments and nonprofits for implementation.
Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program
-
Cities, counties, states and Indian tribes are eligible for funding through the Department of Energy's Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Program. The funding can be used for residential energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits.
-
Weatherization Innovation Pilot Program
-
An energy efficiency retrofit involves a lot more than just applying caulking to seal cracks. The Weatherization Innovation Pilot Program is a DOE grant designed to support the development and proliferation of innovations that improve the effectiveness of home energy audits and energy efficiency retrofits. Collaborative partnerships are eligible to apply and can include colleges and universities, nonprofits, utilities, weatherization service providers, and the private sector. Like with any grant program, the DOE has placed limits on the kinds of projects and programs that are eligible for funding. For example, grant funds can't be used to weatherize housing owned by a college or university.
