Appropriate Keyword Density
One of the basics of Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is keyword use. When used properly, keywords move your site up Google's results pages. However, Google's search engine moves sites down the list when they overuse keywords.

What is Keyword Density?
-
Keyword density is the number of times a keyword is used in text relative to the total number of words in that same text. Find the density by counting total words in an article and the total number of times the keyword appears, then divide the keyword total by the word total.
Why Opt for a Low Density?
-
Content that is useful and original generally gets better Google ratings, at least in theory. Repetition of a keyword over and over again hurts the readability of the content. Also take into account that Internet surfers click away from a page within seconds of not finding what they want. Content that spams with keywords will not retain users' interest for long.

Optimum Keyword Density
-
The acceptable range for keyword density is between 2 and 5 percent. Many content writers are instructed to use 3 percent.
Density Checkers
-
Many keyword density checkers exist online. All you have to do is copy and paste your text into a form and then input the targeted keyword. The checker automatically generates a word count and keyword count, divides the keywords by total words, and gives a density percentage. Some also make suggestions and tell you if your density is too high or low.
