Information on Cellulite thumbnail
Cellulite can form on thighs and buttocks.

Cellulite is a very common condition that 85 to 98 percent of women experience throughout their lives. It is a lumpy look to the skin that usually appears on the thighs and buttocks. The lumpy look is what gives cellulite the description of cottage cheese or an orange peel texture. Does this Spark an idea?

  1. Causes

    • The lumpy look of cellulite gets its appearance from fat and fluids that have built up and are trapped by a layer of connective tissues in the upper layer of the skin. The actual cause of cellulite is not yet known, however there are many theories regarding the condition. These theories include poor circulation and poor eating habits.

    Factors

    • Like with other conditions, genetics plays a big factor in whether or not you will get cellulite. If other women in your family have cellulite, you will most likely have it also. Age can also play a factor because as you grow older your skin begins to slack and can contribute to cellulite. Weight is also a major factor. People who are overweight tend to be more susceptible to cellulite.

    Treatment

    • Currently, there are no sure fire treatments to get rid of cellulite all together. However, there are several ways you can fight the appearance. Eating a healthy and well balanced diet as well as drinking the recommended amount of water for your body weight everyday may help fight the appearance of cellulite. Massages and creams can also help with improving the look of cellulite. Exercise can also significantly improve cellulite appearance.
