History

Microsoft OneNote 2003 was the first version of OneNote, but it was modified to relate to more file types in 2007 and again in 2010.

Purpose

According to Microsoft, OneNote is meant to help people organize and find the data that they need in a way that most suits their individual style. It is customizable and can integrate many file types.

Use

Open Microsoft OneNote to start a new "notebook" to which you add text or drawings you create in OneNote, other files, links to other files, and audio materials. Separate "notebooks" can be set up for different projects, customizing features like style and size.
