Understand the health insurance laws in Kentucky.

Each state has its own health insurance laws. Kentucky laws mandate certain protections for insured individuals. Before you purchase health insurance, make sure you understand what health insurance companies are not allowed to do so that you obtain the insurance you are entitled to receive.

  1. Non-Discrimination

    • You are not allowed to be turned away for group health insurance in Kentucky because of health reasons. Your employer may offer a Health Maintenance Organization (HMO) plan that does not provide service to your area.

    Elimination Riders

    • Kentucky health insurance companies are not allowed to add elimination riders to their individual health insurance policies. Health insurance elimination riders allow insurance companies to permanently exclude a health condition from coverage.

    Guaranteed Renewability

    • Your health insurance cannot be canceled for health reasons. The insurance company cannot refuse to renew your policy for health reasons. Your plan can be canceled for non-payment of premiums under both group and individual insurance.
