Use POP to access Gmail through other e-mail programs.

POP stands for Post Office Protocol. It allows users to download and read e-mails directly from Gmail servers within another e-mail provider. It allows users to combine e-mail accounts from multiple providers and access this e-mail in one central location.

  1. Access

    • Users have the ability to access achieved e-mail from their Gmail account even if there is no connection to the Internet. This is helpful in retrieving important e-mails you may need access to when no Internet connection is available.

    Enable

    • Enable POP access directly through your Gmail account. Do so by selecting "Settings" at the top of any page in your e-mail. Enable POP by selecting the "Forwarding and POP/IMAP" tab and placing a bullet next to "Enable POP for all mail" or "Enable POP for mail that arrives from now on."

    Configuration

    • Configure POP through your preferred e-mail client by selecting the option to add a new account. The software will take you through the steps of adding Gmail to your account. It will either ask you to manually enter the information or retrieve the POP information itself.

    Fees

    • Gmail provides POP access for not charge, and does not plan to impose a charge in the future. Anyone who has a Gmail account can take advantage of the POP settings and advantages.
