Damon Braces vs. Traditional
Orthodontic braces are the means to achieving perfectly aligned teeth. The process can be uncomfortable and lengthy, particularly if your teeth need extensive realignment. Orthodontics have advanced from the days of mouths filled with clunky metal. Specialized stainless steel brackets called Damon brackets offer an alternative to traditional braces.

Both traditional and Damon braces consist of a thin metal arch wire threaded through brackets attached to the teeth. The wires attach to traditional brackets with metal or plastic ligatures, or ties. With Damon brackets, however, the arch wires slide through a metal slot.

The arch wire applies steady pressure to move teeth, and that force must be strong enough to overcome the friction between the wire and the bracket. Damon brackets reduce friction because the wire slides freely through the bracket.

Damon braces may reduce treatment time. The reduced friction allows teeth to move more quickly than with traditional metal braces.
Advantages

The force needed to move teeth stresses the underlying bone and tissue, possibly leading to erosion. Damon braces, however, use a minimal amount of force and may be less damaging to gum tissue.
Disadvantages

Traditional braces incur fewer costs than Damon braces. Additionally, traditional braces are recommended for cases needing extensive realignment.
