Mississippi Land for Hunting

Hunters have three choices when looking for hunting land in the state of Mississippi: They can make use of the state's public hunting land; they can purchase land to hunt on; or they can lease or rent land.

  1. Public Land

    • The state of Mississippi has large tracts of public hunting land. This land is overseen by the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks. The state is divided into Wildlife Management Areas (WMAs) to protect local wildlife. Hunters must purchase permits to hunt in these WMAs.

    Purchasing Land

    • Mississippi is home to real estate companies that focus entirely on selling tracts of wilderness. Companies like the Mississippi Land Company sell land to those interested for timber, agricultural reasons or the land itself. Some fortunate buyers may find land already fitted with a hunting lodge.

    Renting Land

    • Mississippi hunters may also rent land for hunting. They can lease land directly from an owner or through a real estate broker, or they can pay a fee to hunt on a private game reserve.
