Part-Time EMS Captain Job Description
Part-time EMS captains work directly under the supervision of fire/EMS chiefs. These highly skilled professionals are responsible for coordinating and supervising all emergency medical/rescue services and staff members in a capacity which is under 40 hours per week.

Duties

EMS captains working on a part-time schedule are responsible for organizing and overseeing EMS training, developing and implementing EMS policies and procedures, providing public education services, and testing/maintaining the operation of equipment and facilities used.
Education

Individuals working as part-time EMS captains must have received a high school diploma or equivalent certificate. College level educational requirements vary based on area and may range from an associate degree in a related medical field to a bachelor's or master's degree in paramedic science.

Experience

Experiential requirements for part-time EMS captains include three to six years of work in the EMS field. Additional requirements may apply, such as three years of experience working in a supervisory role.
Licenses and Certifications

Part-time EMS captains must possess the following licenses/certifications issued in the state in which the employer is located: driver's license, license to practice paramedic medicine, and paramedic instructor certification.
