License
-
All mountain lion hunters must possess a valid, state-issued Texas hunting license. According to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) website, licenses can be obtained through the TPWD, and at many bait and tackle shops, grocery stores, gun shops and sporting goods stores.
Season
-
Mountain lions may be legally hunted on private property at any time, however, most sponsored private land hunts take place between September and April. Public hunting lands such as wildlife conservation areas and state parks have differing restrictions.

Bag Limits
-
According to the TPWD website, there is no limit to the number of mountain lions you may hunt or possess in one setting on private land. Restrictions may be enforced in public hunting areas.
Location
-
Mountain lions can be found throughout the state of Texas, but West Texas is where they are found in large numbers. Estimates to the size of the mountain lion population vary wildly, but in 2007 the Dallas Morning News reported that the general consensus is the population is bigger than it has ever been based on sightings and mortality information.
Other Information
-
Mountain lions can be harvested at any time within regulations, however, TPWD asks that any sightings, harvests or mortalities be reported to 512-389-8047.
