Financial Support for Pregnancy

Financial Support for Pregnancy thumbnail
There is financial support available for pregnant women.

Several types of public financial support exist to help pregnant women care for themselves, and their unborn baby, during and after the pregnancy. Financial assistance may be used toward expenses, such as health care and groceries.

  1. Food

    • Every state has a food stamp program, in which pregnant women can receive monthly vouchers to use on groceries. The federally-funded Women, Infants and Children program also provides nutritional foods to low-income pregnant women.

    Health Insurance

    • Medicaid is often available to low-income women who become pregnant. This is a government-funded health insurance program that is available in each state. A link that lists each state's Medicaid office is provided in the reference section below.

    Subsidized housing

    • Subsidized housing programs are available for pregnant women. This type of program provides free or low-cost housing to women in need during and after pregnancy. Several organizations exist that provide subsidized housing, such as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, USDA Office of Rural Development and state housing agencies.
