The History of Wireless Mice
The wireless mouse dates back further than many would think: all the way back to 1984 with an infrared mouse. Since that first infrared mouse, wireless technology has come a long way and so has the wireless mouse.
-
Infrared Technology
-
The first wireless mouse was invented in 1984 by Logitech and it needed to be within beaming distance from the computer in order to work, similar to the technology of a TV remote control.
Radio Frequency
-
Logitech made a large improvement on its wireless mouse in 1991 with the use of radio frequency instead of infrared technology. The mouse no longer had to be in a direct line from the computer.
-
Battery Efficient
-
In 1999, Microsoft launched its first wireless mouse and others soon followed, with more options and better battery efficiency.
Bluetooth
-
In 2003, Apple released its first wireless mouse, which used Bluetooth technology.
