Parachuting Jumpsuits Information
While parachuting suits aren't a necessity, you may choose to wear one during your skydive, depending on what you hope to accomplish. Manufacturers design skydiving suits with very specific functions in mind.
-
Controlling Fall Rate
-
Parachuting suits slow down your fall rate. People of different heights and weights naturally descend at different rates, which is a problem for divers free falling in formation. Weights or special-made jumpsuits will equalize the fall rates among divers of different sizes.
Protection
-
Parachuting jumpsuits provide protection. The wind, sun and air pressure during a dive is intense. Jumpsuits protect your skin and street clothes from damage caused by the elements. The padding in your jumpsuit may also protect you from scrapes and bruises from rough landings.
-
Fit
-
The fit of a jumpsuit is critical. If your suit is too tight, it could split under the air pressure during your fall. If it's too big, it could open up in high winds.
Material
-
Parachuting suits are made of rip-stop nylon that is lightweight and waterproof. The suits sometimes sport fluorescent, padded strips on the arms and legs. These provide grips for the convenience of other divers when you are free falling in group formations.
