Operations & Skin Problems thumbnail
After undergoing an operation, a person could develop skin problems.

When undergoing an operation, a person faces risks from complications from anesthesia. She could also be in danger of developing skin problems while recovering from surgery.

  1. Skin Problems

    • Skin problems that can occur after an operation usually center on the incision site and surgical wound. These problems include infection and scarring, according to the book "Fundamental Nursing Skills and Concepts" by Barbara Kuhn Timby.

    Symptoms

    • An infected surgical wound will cause red, inflamed skin. A patient could experience pus drainage and pain. Scarring after an operation will occur if a good deal of closure material was needed. During healing, drainage could occur.

    Treatment

    • Skin problems associated with infection after an operation may be treated with antibiotics and cleaning the wound. Scarring can be addressed after the incision has healed with plastic surgery.
