A regional sales manager is responsible for managing the distribution of a product or service to the customer. He must organize the sales distribution by establishing goals, training programs, quotas and sales territories.

The duties required of a regional sales manager include resolving customer complaints about service and sales, determining discount rates and price schedules, overseeing regional and local sales managers and their staffs, and directing and coordinating activities involving sales of manufactured products, real estate, commodities and services. She is also responsible for monitoring customer preferences to determine what the focus of sales efforts should be.

The regional sales manager should be proficient in time management, speaking, service orientation, math and active listening. He should also possess oral comprehension and oral expression skills.

A regional sales manager should have knowledge of mathematics, computers and electronics, sales and marketing, administration and management and clerical procedures. Regional sales managers should have at least a bachelor's degree in business administration, marketing, finance or a related field.
