Duck Hunting in East Texas
In east Texas, duck hunters must follow the hunting regulations of the North Duck Zone and the South Duck Zone, two of three statewide duck hunting areas designated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

Hunting Licenses and Permits

To hunt in east Texas' North or South Duck Zone, all hunters must obtain a hunting license. Duck hunters ages 16 and older must additionally purchase a Texas Migratory Game Bird Stamp Endorsement, and duck hunters ages 17 years and older must additionally purchase a Federal Migratory Bird Hunting and Conservation Stamp.
Hunting Seasons

In both the North and South Duck Zone, which in east Texas are located in all areas north and south of Interstate 10, the fall, winter and spring duck-hunting seasons are announced annually in the fall on the Texas Parks and Wildlife website. Seasons vary based zone, with additional dates provided for youth and falconry, or trained bird hunters.

Bag Limits

After the fifth day of the season, only six ducks may be retained per day, including five mallards, only two of which can be hens. Of the six per-day limit, only three may be wood ducks, two may be scaup or redheads, and only one pintail, canvasback and dusty duck are permitted daily.
