FedEx employs more than 400,000 people and, according to its website, provides its staff with "health, financial and lifestyle offerings" that benefit employees and their families. Job requirements vary depending on department and job title, as seen with three of the most common positions: operations manager, package handler and courier. All contribute to the FedEx team to ensure that deliveries are made in a safe and timely manner.

Operations Manager

FedEx operations managers oversee sorting and shipping procedures at various locations to ensure deliveries are on time and packages are not damaged. Duties include training employees, leading safety meetings and making sure freight is properly loaded. An applicant for an operations manager position needs a minimum of a high school diploma, although a bachelor's degree in business, logistics or a related field is preferred, according to FedEx's careers website. Solid written and verbal communications skills are also required. Operations managers are multitaskers who are computer literate and knowledgeable about Department of Transportation and Occupational Safety and Health Administration regulations.

Package Handler

A minimum age of 18, basic literacy skills, the ability to follow directions and the capacity to lift, carry, push and pull packages for two to four hours at a time are the minimum job requirements for FedEx package handlers. Handlers are responsible for a variety of tasks, including loading aircraft, freight containers and vehicles, securing cargo, and scanning packages. Handlers may also direct aircraft to loading docks and operate ramp equipment. Additionally, some handler positions require clearance from the U.S. Postal Service; applicants must have lived in the United States for the past five years continuously to be eligible for clearance.

Courier

The primary duty of a FedEx courier is to deliver packages to customers at their residences or places of business. Couriers need to be at least 21 years old, have a high school diploma or equivalent, hold a valid driver's license and be able to lift and manipulate 75 pounds. Applicants for courier positions undergo mandatory drug testing, a medical examination and background check. Scanning packages, loading vehicles and delivering and picking up shipments are duties that a courier completes during a typical day.
