Tamper Proof Prescription Pad Standards
Prescriptions for a Medicaid patient must be on tamper-proof paper with at least one approved security element, or the federal insurer will not cover the cost of the drug.
-
Function
-
Tamper-proof prescription pads are used to prevent forged prescriptions. Someone with a drug addiction may steal a prescription pad to illegally obtain drugs. Tamper-resistant features prevent someone from altering the drug type or dosage--or signing a doctor's name.
Features
-
Recognized pad security features include paper edging with fine print, paper that is difficult to erase on, and a watermark that can be seen at a 45-degree angle. A temperature sensitive "Rx," which fades when rubbed due to heat, can also be used.
-
Benefits
-
Tamper-proof pads can prevent theft by drug seekers and criminals who are illegally dealing pharmaceuticals. The security features of the pads help a pharmacist identify forged prescriptions before the drugs are dispensed.
