People receiving Social Security Disablity benefits are eligible for many services covered under Medicare.

The Social Security Administration (SSA) has two programs to address the needs of people with disabilities. Social Security Disability benefits are paid to disabled persons with an extensive work history and who contributed to the Social Security program. Supplemental Security Income benefits are paid to eligible persons with limited or no work history and thus paid little into Social Security. In Maine, the elderly and the disabled can receive disability services under the SSA disability program.
