What Is Photocopy Transfer Paper?

You can use photocopy transfer paper to take an image such as a digital picture or a scanned drawing and transfer it to a fabric like a t-shirt or a pillowcase.

Process

Putting an image onto a fabric involves two steps: First you print an image onto the photocopy transfer paper. Then you place the image face down on the fabric and iron it to transfer the image.

Types

You can use different types of photocopy transfer paper for different kinds of images. Certain papers match certain printer ink settings (for example, laser printers versus inkjet printers, dots-per-inch image settings). You should purchase the paper that best meets your image and printer's specifications.

Warning

In order for the image to print correctly on the fabric, you must print the image in reverse, or mirrored, onto the photocopy transfer paper, especially when using text. After ironing, remove the paper immediately in one continuous motion while still hot, or it may stick and ruin your image.
