Associate Degree Programs
-
Many community colleges and vocational schools offer associate degree programs in ultrasound technology. The prerequisites are a high school diploma or a GED. The Education Portal website indicates that students usually do not need to provide ACT or SAT scores to gain entry into an ultrasound degree program.
College Coursework
-
Students who study ultrasound technology take courses in medical terminology and human anatomy and physiology, as well as a variety of diagnostic imaging courses. Many students are also expected to complete a practicum so that they can gain experience working with patients in a clinical setting.

Certification
-
Ultrasound technologists must complete a training program before they can begin working in the medical field. The Bureau of Labor Statistics indicates that certification is not necessary, but accreditation through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography can help trainees to find jobs.
