Pet Injury Insurance
Pet insurance is a growing trend in the insurance industry. It helps defray the costs of veterinary bills due to an auto accident. It is generally included as part of your collision insurance.
-
Coverage
-
Coverage is limited to pets travelling in the vehicle. Coverage is usually limited to dogs and cats traveling in the car with you. It will also cover other family members' pets that are in your vehicle at the time of the accident even if you don't personally own the pet.
What's Included
-
Pet injury insurance covers a portion of the veterinarian expenses. Pet-injury coverage reimburses a portion of your veterinarian bills if the pet sustains injury during an auto accident. Use the insurance payout to cover x-rays, lab fees, prescriptions and other eligible fees. Pet injury insurance also provides reimbursement in the event that the pet dies in the accident, helping to cover the unexpected end-of-life expenses.
-
Amount of Reimbursement
-
Check your collision coverage for information about reimbursement limits. Reimbursement ranges from $500 to $1,000 depending upon the individual insurance company's plan. The amount of the reimbursement is detailed on the insurance policy, or by checking with your insurance agent.
What Isn't Covered
-
Routine vet care is not covered by pet injury insurance. Pet injury insurance does not cover injuries sustained during other activities. It also does not pay for routine veterinary care or treatment for non-accident related illness.
