Printed circuit board relay

A printed circuit board relay functions like a hard-wired relay. The difference is that the physical configuration of the printed circuit board relay's electrical connections allows the relays to be mounted directly onto printed circuit boards. Manufacturers make printed circuit board versions of both electromechanical and solid-state relays.

  1. Automated Assembly

    • Automated component insertion machines created the market for printed circuit board relays. Applications for printed circuit board relays include high-speed switching and logic circuits where power levels are low. These typically include telecommunications systems, computers and satellite electronics.

    Assembly Considerations

    • The elimination of wiring and hardware assembly makes the printed circuit board relay less expensive to assemble than traditional relays. Automated production lines are often able to handle installation and soldering of printed circuit board relays with existing equipment.

    Manufacturing Costs

    • Printed circuit board relays do not require additional sockets and mounting hardware since they are a part of the relay. This reduces the cost of the relay when compared to a traditional device.
