The Certified Criminal Defense Investigator (CCDI) designation rewards individuals who successfully meet all certification requirements for a criminal investigator. This elite group of professionals works in various aspects of the field.

  1. Certification Requirements

    • According to the Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council, individuals must complete 40 hours of formal training in an approved criminal defense investigation program. Applicants must successfully complete at least 25 criminal defense assignments and provide documentation of the cases. Applicants must also provide two letters of recommendation, and have at least two years of work experience. The final requirement is to provide a sworn affidavit supporting the applicant's dedication to being an advocate of the truth.

    Renewing Certification

    • A criminal investigator must complete ten continuing education units every two years to maintain certification.

    Certifying Agency

    • The Criminal Defense Investigation Training Council administers the exam for criminal defense investigation certification.
