Business Etiquette in a Brief
Etiquette is an important part of business life. If you do not demonstrate proper etiquette in a business situation, people may question your professionalism and abilities. Knowing the basics of business etiquette can help you avoid such a mistake.
-
The Handshake
-
When meeting a person, offer your hand and deliver a firm handshake while making eye contact. Do not allow the handshake to last more than a couple of seconds. When meeting a colleague in a social situation you should shake hands just as you would in a business environment.
Business Dinners
-
During a business dinner remember to sit up straight, but without being stiff. Do not drink alcohol unless your host does, and even then limit yourself to two drinks. Do not speak with food in your mouth under any circumstances.
-
Communication
-
If you will not be checking your voicemail for an extended period of time, leave a message on your machine to let people know this. Email communication should be brief and to the point, but ensure that you do not make spelling or grammatical errors.
